How and why did things change in the 1920s and how was it in contrast to past ideas?
The 1920s brought about many changes. Mass production of the Ford Model T put one in every driveway. For the first time people could go to a theater to watch a "moving picture" or movie. F. Scott Fitzgerald was the famous author with lasting works such as Tender is the Night and The Great Gatsby. "The Jazz Age" was created, and nights were marked with rowdy parties in city speakeasy's, drinking what was most likely illegal alcohol. Women known as "flappers" started experimenting with makeup fashion for the first time. Sports were on the rise with heroes such as Babe Ruth, who called his famous home run in this decade. Charles Lindberg made history, flying the first solo mission across the Atlantic Ocean. All of these new and exciting innovations were pushing aside old ideals of the past, but where causing some conflict in the process. Old ideas such as the Victorian women, were in conflict with ideas like the new "flapper" woman. Religious revolutions getting away from the strict interpretation of faith were causing unrest, seen in such examples as the Scopes Monkey Trial. New modes of transportation like the car and the plane contrasted with the old dependency on public transportation, and led to a new and heightened sense of independence in America never seen before. The 1920s were a social revolution in America.
